Abstract
Indigeneity is one of the most controversial concepts in the post-colonial era.As a process of self- construction,it not only involves the identity, history, and current political and cultural situation of Indigenous peoples worldwide, but also relates to the ways in which Indigenous peoples themselves perform and celebrate their indigeneity. Based on this understanding, the article focuses on the Inari Sámi rapper,Amoc, and his music,u- sing actual interviews and exchanges as clues for discussion.Concretely speaking,it first explores how Amoc is influenced by musical globalization and the Finnish music environment, accepting and practicing rap to revitalize indigenous language and culture.Secondly, the article focuses on the expression of self-awareness in Amoc's rap, and examines how he uses the social criticism inherent in rapping to break stereotypes about the Sámi and Indigenous peoples. The article argues that the content and presentation of Amoc's rap both assert the multifaceted nature of indigeneity. Indigeneity is endowed with meaning in the process of indigenous self-expression,self-interpreta- tion, and expression.
