This article focuses on the future development of Western music studies in China, arguing that the field is poised for a significant scholarly shift. This shift entails moving beyond merely studying “the West,” grounding research in a Chinese perspective, focusing on the contemporary era, and thereby forging new paths. The study of music history will thus transcend conservative paradigms and traditional confines, achieving self-renewal and innovation amid the transformative cultural currents of the new era.
